Purna Bajekal began dancing at Slavin-Nadal School of Ballet at age 3 and started Bharata Natyam training at age 6 with her mother, Guru Anuradha Naimpally. Purna continued to study multi-forms of dance at Tapestry Dance Company, such as Ballet and Tap. During the past few years, she has had the opportunity to tour and perform with her mom in the US, Canada, and India. In 2009, Purna began teaching Bharata Natyam classes at Austin Dance India.
In 2011, Purna was a part of Parampara, which was awarded the coveted Best Dance Concert award for 2011 and was named by the Austin Chronicle as one of the top five performances of 2011. In 2013, her duet performance with her mother, was nominated for Best Duet Performance by the Austin Critics’ Circle.
In the Fall of 2013, Purna began college at Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX as a psychology major and special education minor. Purna loves to continue to perform both at Southwestern University and in Austin with her mother. She hopes to continue performing and teaching dance for many years to come.
